Advising

You will be notified by the department of your initial advisor assignment by early June. If you would like to request a specific faculty member as your advisor, please email epi@uw.edu. Your initial advisor will primarily serve as an academic advisor and networking resource for you until you have identified a thesis/dissertation project and Chair. We encourage you to consult with your initial advisor and meet with other faculty as you develop your thesis/dissertation project. Once you have engaged a faculty member to be your Chair, that person will become your primary advisor.

The UW Graduate School Mentoring website provides resources to help you develop effective mentoring relationships with faculty and staff. In addition, the site offers many topic specific guides with practical tips on important topics such as Time Management, Salary Negotiations, Presenting your Research, and Collaborating and Co-authoring.
