About

Rachel Kubiak

Dissertation title: Diabetes Mellitus as a Risk Factor for Tuberculosis in HIV-Infected and Uninfected Populations

Research interests: Global health, public health practice

Awards or recognition: NIAID F31 Fellow, ITHS TL1 Fellow, Remak Scholarship

Plans post-graduation: Public Health – Seattle & King County epidemiologist for the COVID-19 contact tracing and opioid surveillance programs

Advice for students: Make friends with your cohort/classmates. Epi grad students can be intimidatingly shy, but I can’t remember one who wasn’t kind. They’ll get you through hard classes and harder dissertation work.

Favorite memory: Celebrating prelim completion at Agua Verde, donut walks from ICRC, Paul Drain’s research lab meetings, dissertation dinners with classmates, chats in the hallways or kitchen about life and research.
