Research Interests

As a pediatric oncologist and epidemiologist, my clinical and research focus are on cancer survivorship. I serve as the medical director of the Cancer Survivor Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the director of the Prevention Center (CCSG-supported) Shared Resource at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Nationally, I chair the Children’s Oncology Group’s (COG) Survivorship & Outcomes Committee and serve on the Executive Committee of the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), where I co-chair the Chronic Disease Working Group among other responsibilities. I have been funded on various NCI (K07, R01, R03) and foundation grants focused on cancer survivorship, with a focus on cardiometabolic outcomes and hematopoietic cell transplantation survivors. These studies have featured a variety of methods ranging from population-based administrative data linkages, patient reported outcomes, detailed physiologic measurements, genetic analyses, and counseling- and exercise-based intervention studies. My clinical and research goals are to improve the care of all people who have had cancer through well-designed and detailed follow-up studies. I also have been involved in mentoring various trainees in my home institutions as well as externally through my involvement in the COG and CCSS.
