Collrane is an epidemiology PhD student working as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Chu Lab where she supports projects focused on the design and evaluation of strategies to diagnose, prevent, and treat respiratory pathogens. Her primary research interests include infectious disease epidemiology and vaccines, in particular generating data to inform the design and implementation of maternal and child health immunization programs. Leveraging data from a previously conducted maternal influenza vaccine randomized-controlled trial in Nepal, her dissertation research project—funded by an NIH/NIAID predoctoral fellowship—seeks to close gaps in knowledge in low- and middle-income countries pertaining to maternal influenza disease severity, the impact of maternal influenza vaccination on infant growth, the optimal timing of vaccination during pregnancy, and the cost-effectiveness of this intervention. Prior to entering the PhD program, Collrane worked as a Technical Officer at PATH improving the safety, acceptability, and effectiveness of immunization and drug delivery through innovation. She also holds an MSPH in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
