When Dr. Lisa Manhart stepped down from the University of Washington’s START Center last July, Dr. Stephen Hawes expanded his role as Associate Director of the Center. With its new website recently launched, we sat down with Dr. Hawes to learn more about START’s expanding impact.
Congratulations to the 2015 Distinguished Staff Award Nominees
Nominees for this year’s UW Distinguished Staff Award include our very own Department of Epidemiology staff, Kevin Schuda. Kevin became a member of the Department of Epidemiology Student Academic Services Office (Epi SAS) a few years ago when we initiated a reorganization of staff responsibilities. Kevin came to us from the Institute for Public Health Genetics where he had many years of experience being the primary support for that interdisciplinary program’s academic services.

Tashina Robinson and Linda Oseso, both graduate students in Epidemiology, have been selected as delegates to the 2016 CDC Millennial Health Leaders Summit in Atlanta. They'll spend two days in intensive training on how to prepare for careers as health equity leaders.
The Institute of Translational Health Sciences Names Three Promising Investigators to KL2 Training Program
The Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program recently announced its newest cohort of KL2 scholars. Dr. Matthew B. Rivara, an Epidemiology Master’s student, joins two other University of Washington investigators for three years of rigorous interdisciplinary training.

Victoria Holt, a faculty member since 1991, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Epidemiology
Victoria Holt has been appointed Chair of the Department of Epidemiology within the University of Washington School of Public Health. A professor of Epidemiology, she takes over from Scott Davis, who stepped down as Chair and continues to serve as a professor.
