Research Interests

Dr. Ásbjörnsdóttir is an epidemiologist with interests in global maternal and child health and infectious diseases. Her specific research interests are in the health and survival of HIV-exposed and -infected infants and improving HIV care services in resource-limited settings. She currently works on the SAIA-Scale study, a stepped wedge trial scaling up a systems analysis and improvement approach intervention for mother-to-child transmission of HIV services in Manica Province, Mozambique; and on the DeWorm3 study, a multi-country cluster randomized trial of community-wide deworming with the goal of interrupting transmission of soil-transmitted helminths. She is a member of the Health Alliance International and Global Women Adolescent and Child Health (Global WACh) research centers in the Department of Global Health.

Dr. Ásbjörnsdóttir teaches Epi 320: Introduction to Epidemiology, offered in Winter and Spring quarters.Global maternal and child health; HIV; infant feeding and morbidity; health care in resource-limited settings.
