Bio

Dr. de Sanjose is a Medical Doctor from the University of Barcelona, Spain and PhD from the London University, UK. She is an epidemiologist working on HPV-related diseases for over 35 years. She has been employed at WHO- IARC, at the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Barcelona, Spain, at PATH in Seattle, and at the USA National Cancer Institute. She is the Past President of the International PapillomaVirus Society (2015-18). She is an associated researcher at ISGlobal in Barcelona, Spain and has a grant with Dr Margaret Madeline and Ann Durr from the Fred Hutch.

She is interested in the pathways of cervical cancer prevention and all HPV-related cancers through vaccination and secondary prevention and adequate management. She co-leads a Moonshoot-related project, the PAVE project, which primarily emphasizes the utilization of HPV detection through self-sampling, extended genotype information, and, for women who test positive for HPV, the automated evaluation of cervical images using AI-based solutions to enhance visual assessment with acetic acid. She is involved in shaping the World Health Organization's living guidelines for cervical cancer screening and the Code of Cancer Prevention for Europe.
