Hello! I am an (aspiring) epidemiologist and science writer applying mixed-methods research approaches to infectious disease control, with a focus on environmental and social determinants of health and health equity. I am a fluent Spanish speaker with workable Portuguese. I participate in the Epi EDI Committee as much as I can, and am inspired by my fellow Epi students and EDI members on a regular basis.
My mixed-methods dissertation uses an Ecosocial framework to explore the effects of water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions on child health under different community infrastructure and socioeconomic conditions in coastal Norther Ecuador. I hope to continue to explore how environmental, structural, and socioeconomic conditions interact to impact health, and how community priorities can inform strategies to combat intersectional inequities in population health.
I work in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at UW in the Levy Lab. As a parent of a toddler and as someone who has done the PhD degree program part-time while working full-time for many years, I am happy to connect with other parents or non-traditional students, in particular.
