Research Coordinator for National Research Data Sharing Initiative

Are you interested in helping to improve the healthcare of our United States Veterans through meaningful work in a collaborative environment? The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is a nationally renowned program that produces innovative solutions to Veteran and national healthcare problems through multi-site research studies.

The Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC) is a CSP epidemiology center conducting state-of-the-art health research on Veterans. The ERIC is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator to support the CSP Integrated Veteran Epidemiologic Study Data Resource (INVESTD-R). 

INVESTD-R is a national open-science initiative that facilitates the responsible sharing of data, biospecimens, and other resources generated by epidemiologic research on Veterans. Increased access to these resources expands opportunities for qualified researchers to make scientific discoveries that benefit Veterans and the public. INVESTD-R is committed to using open science to advance research, while ensuring strong safeguards are in place to protect the privacy of participants and the confidentiality of their data.

The Research Coordinator will support multiple projects under the initiative, particularly the CSP Data and Biospecimen Repository, a new program-wide research repository that will share data and biospecimens from multiple CSP studies for future research. The position will also assist with other INVESTD-R projects, as needed.

Key duties:

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience
    • BA/BS or higher degree in health sciences or social sciences discipline
    • 1-4 years of relevant work experience (e.g., human subjects research, repository management, information management) 
      • If BA/BS, 1-4 years of research-related experience required
      • If higher degree, 1-2 years of research-related experience preferred
  • Additional Requirements
    • Experience working with IRBs and regulatory documents
    • Experience working in human subjects research in an academic or government setting
    • Proven ability to work with partners and stakeholders with a wide range of professional backgrounds and expertise
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to develop, maintain, and cultivate relationships with internal and external customers
    • Ability to self-manage workload against multiple competing priorities and deadlines
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Experience building internal systems that support attention to detail and quality control
    • Strong writing skills
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in or knowledge of data sharing or repository management
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Power BI, and SharePoint programs
    • Familiarity with epidemiologic research design and methodology
    • Experience in database design, querying, and management
    • Knowledge of data and metadata standards
    • Experience writing operations/instructional manuals

 

About INVESTD-R, Seattle ERIC, and VA Cooperative Studies Program (CSP)

The Seattle ERIC is a research center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System that works to improve the health and care of Veterans through epidemiologic research. We are part of the VA CSP, a national VA research group of 12 epidemiology and clinical trial research centers. The Seattle ERIC is 1 of 3 centers managing the INVESTD-R open science initiative.
