The Department of Epidemiology is committed to strengthening diversity among our faculty, staff and student body while promoting equity and respect. To achieve this vision, we have recently formed an Epidemiology Diversity Committee. Under the leadership of Victoria Holt (Department Chair), several department faculty and student representatives to the SPH Diversity Committee, one Epidemiology staff member, and several other students will be engaged in strategic planning for the implementation of policies and initiaitives that promote inclusion.
The essential role of this committee is:
- strategic planning around issues of under-represented minority (URM) student recruitment, retention, and funding;
- URM faculty recruitment and development;
- and departmental inclusivity and culture.
Current committee work also includes planning for implementation of the School's anti-racism competency in departmental curricula and the institution of implicit bias training.
This vital Committee work will enable us to better serve our students, our communities, and beyond. We will continue to keep you aprised of our ongoing work and progress in this area.
